What is the difference between a Fertility Doula Vs Other Doulas?

  • You’ve most likely heard the word “doula” but for birth doulas.

  • The origin of doula means “servant- woman” in Greek.

  • There are many people that work as “doulas” who have different titles such as: fertility doula (conception; getting pregnant) birth doula,( assist with births)  postpartum doula( assist with after birth), end of life doula( assist with loss),  to use “birth worker” instead of its origins.

  • All the Doulas have unique roles to serve as guides to provide resources and support healthy conception through postpartum for  birthing persons. That is so easily accessible on the internet that sometimes can cause confusion.

What is the difference between Doula and a midwife vs Ob/Gyn?

  • Birth Doulas provide no medical or nursing care. However, clinical studies have found that when a Birth Doula is present at the time of birthing,  there are shorter labor times with less complications, reduced negative feelings about childbirth experience. Reduces the need for labor- inducing needs such as  pitocin ( medical inducing drugs) , forceps, or vacuum extraction. Reduced the pain medications and epidurals as well as incidence of cesareans sections.

  • Midwives: are registered nurses with extended education in midwifery  who specialize in women's reproductive health and child birthing. They assist from puberty through menopause. However, they have emphasis on labor, delivery and the postpartum care of birthing persons.

  • Obstetrician-Gynecologist (OB-GYN) – is a medical doctor who specializes in women’s reproductive health, pregnancy care and delivering babies. They’re surgically trained and can perform Cesarean sections (C-sections) when necessary.

  • Your carefully chosen care provider is an integral part of your birth.

  • Yes, You can have all three if you like.

Does a Holistic Service Doula replace my partner or family?

  • No, the Fertility Doula is supportive to both partner and birthing persons during the conception journey.

What if my provider is apprehensive about me hiring a Doula?

  •  With compassion and service at the forefront our services are extremely professional and not there to offer medical advice, or interfere with the care from your provider.  This is an opportunity to educate your provider as to why you want a Holistic Fertility Doula role that doesn't conflict with the roles of the nursing or medical staff at the hospital.

Are Holistic Fertility Doula Services covered under  insurances?

While services are not usually covered by insurance, many families find that their HSA/FSA will cover doula services.

  • If you have a flex spend account holder, you can call your insurance and see many families find that their HSA/FSA will cover doula services in full or with partial of full reimbursement from many insurance companies

  •  You may need your provider to fill out a Medical Necessity form. If they do the insurance company should be able to provide you with claim paperwork necessary to file a claim after your birth.

  •  I encourage clients if they would like to file a claim regardless of the outcome; it demonstrates a need to the company and hopefully pushes them to make beneficial changes to policies to cover such services in the future.

  • We also offer a variety of payment plans to assist you.
